The Boca Raton Local SEO Checklist

39 steps, in the order we actually do them, plus 22 directories worth your time. No signup, no email, nothing gated. Work top to bottom and you will have covered what most local businesses in South Florida never finish.

01

Claim and finish your Google Business Profile

For local searches like "marketing agency near me," Google leans on your Business Profile more than your website. Finish it completely before anything else.

  • Claim the profile and verify it

Search your business name on Google, click "Own this business?" and complete verification. Until it is verified you cannot control what shows.

  • Pick one primary category, then add secondary ones

Your primary category has the strongest effect on which searches you appear in. Choose the one that names what you actually sell, not the broadest option.

  • Add your service area and real hours

List the cities you serve and keep hours current, including holidays. Wrong hours are one of the fastest ways to lose a call.

  • Load 15+ real photos and keep adding monthly

Storefront, team, work in progress, finished results. Fresh photos give Google a recency signal and give buyers a reason to trust you.

  • Fill every service and product with a description

Each service you add is another phrase Google can match you to. Write them the way customers say them.

  • Post weekly updates

Offers, new work, questions you answered this week. Posts keep the profile active and show up directly in your listing.

02

Lock your name, address and phone to one exact format

Search engines cross-check your business details across the web. Mismatches make them less confident about you, and less confidence means lower local rankings.

  • Write your NAP once and copy it everywhere

Decide on one spelling, one suite format, one phone number. Paste that exact text into every listing instead of retyping it.

  • Use a local number, not only a tracking number

Keep your real local line as the main number on directories. Tracking numbers can go in ad campaigns instead.

  • Put the same details in your website footer

Crawlable text, not an image. Add it to every page so any landing page confirms the same location.

  • Fix or remove duplicate listings

Old addresses and second profiles split your signals. Claim duplicates and mark them closed or merge them.

  • Add LocalBusiness structured data

Mark up name, address, phone, hours and geo coordinates so machines read the same values a human sees.

03

Submit to the directories that still matter

You do not need hundreds of listings. You need the handful that feed data to search engines, plus the local ones buyers actually browse.

  • Start with the four data sources

Google Business Profile, Apple Business Connect, Bing Places and Facebook. These get scraped and echoed by smaller sites.

  • Then add the general directories

Work through the list below in one sitting with your NAP text on the clipboard. Two hours of submissions covers most of the value.

  • Join one local organization

A chamber of commerce or trade association listing is a genuine local link, not just a citation.

  • Track logins in one place

You will need to update these when hours, phone or address change. A simple sheet saves hours later.

04

Build a review habit, not a review campaign

Review count, rating and recency all feed local rankings, and they are the first thing a buyer reads. A slow steady flow beats a one-week push.

  • Create your short review link

Grab the review link from your Business Profile and shorten it. Anything longer than a tap loses people.

  • Ask at the moment of relief

Right after the job is done and the customer is happy, in person or by text. Not a week later by email.

  • Reply to every review, good or bad

Short, specific, no template language. Replies are public proof that someone is home.

  • Never buy or incentivize reviews

It violates platform policies and risks the profile you just built. Volume from real customers is the only durable path.

  • Ask on Apple Maps too

iPhone users often never touch Google Maps. Apple ratings are a separate pool most competitors ignore.

05

Give every service and city its own page

One page cannot rank for ten services in six cities. Search engines match a query to a page, so the page has to exist.

  • One page per service

Say what it is, what is included, who it fits and what happens next. Answer questions instead of listing adjectives.

  • One page per city you serve

Reference real neighborhoods, real customer types and real travel range. Swapping a city name into the same paragraph does not work.

  • Put the location in the title tag and H1

Keep titles under about 60 characters and make each one different from every other page on the site.

  • Write a description that earns the click

Ranking in the top ten with a dull description still gets no traffic. Lead with the outcome.

  • Link related pages to each other

Service pages should link to their city pages and back. Internal links are how authority reaches your deeper pages.

  • Pass Core Web Vitals on mobile

Compress images, drop unused scripts and check load time on a phone on cellular data, not office wifi.

06

Publish answers, and make them quotable by AI

People now ask ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews for recommendations. Those systems quote pages that answer a question plainly and cite something checkable.

  • Write down the questions you get asked on calls

Pricing, timelines, what is included, what goes wrong. That list is your content calendar.

  • Answer in the first two sentences

Lead with the direct answer, then explain. Buried answers do not get quoted.

  • Use real numbers you can stand behind

Your own prices, timelines and results. Never invent statistics; a claim you cannot source can be checked and held against you.

  • Add FAQ structured data

It gives machines a clean question and answer pair to lift.

  • Update old pages instead of only adding new ones

A refreshed page that already ranks usually beats a brand new one.

07

Earn local links

Once the basics are done, links are usually what separates page one from page eight. Local links are easier to earn than national ones.

  • Sponsor or attend something local

Youth sports, a 5K, a charity night. Sponsor pages link out, and the audience is exactly your market.

  • Trade links with non-competing local businesses

A partners page swap with businesses that serve the same customer is legitimate and useful to visitors.

  • Get quoted by local press and podcasts

Reporters need sources with a real opinion. Pitch a specific take, not a company overview.

  • Publish one thing worth linking to

A checklist, a template, a planner. Resources earn links for years; sales pages rarely do.

08

Measure the two numbers that matter

Rankings move constantly. Calls and forms are what pay you. Track both, but judge yourself on the second.

  • Connect Google Search Console

It shows the exact searches you appear for, your position and your clicks. Everything else is an estimate.

  • Check which pages get impressions but no clicks

Those are your fastest wins: the demand is already there and only the rank or the title is holding you back.

  • Log where leads say they found you

One field on your form. It is the cheapest attribution you will ever build.

  • Review monthly, not daily

Local rankings bounce week to week. Month over month is the only trend worth reacting to.

Questions we get about local SEO

How long does local SEO take to work in Boca Raton?

Google Business Profile changes can show within days. Directory and review work usually shows over four to eight weeks. Ranking service and city pages for competitive searches like "marketing agency Boca Raton" generally takes three to six months of consistent publishing and link building, because the sites already ranking have years of history.

Do I need a physical address to rank locally?

You need a verifiable location, but service area businesses can hide the street address and still rank. What you cannot do is use a virtual mailbox or a coworking desk you do not actually work from; those get profiles suspended.

How many directory listings do I actually need?

Get the four core data sources exactly right first, then work through the general directories. Twenty accurate listings beat two hundred with mismatched details, because inconsistency is what damages trust.

What matters more, reviews or backlinks?

Reviews move the map results and win the click. Backlinks move the standard organic results. If you have almost no reviews, start there; if you have solid reviews but sit on page five for your main searches, links and page depth are the bottleneck.

Does this checklist work outside Boca Raton?

Yes. Every step applies in any city; only the local organizations and neighborhood references change. The list below is ordered for South Florida businesses because that is where we work.
